Artist's Statement
"A
painting is a vehicle for communication, and my paintings
communicate feelings or ideas in the most direct and powerful way
that I can.
When I am walking through the woods, or driving beside the ocean,
running with the dog, or at any time during the day, a scene or
object may capture my attention which gives expression to all the
thoughts and feelings I am experiencing and which need an outlet.
Later, the scene may return to my mind, and impress me as one of
great beauty and import, and I will want to paint it. I may go back,
again and again, to that place, to get a feel for it and to learn
how to paint it – observe its nuances in this light or that as I
prepare for the painting.
Really, it is the original feeling or idea that I am painting, as
well as the scene, and this dual inspiration adds layers of meaning
and beauty to my paintings.
When an appreciator looks at my painting, I hope he or she may walk
into a new space that is very special and outside of normal time,
where words are not necessary.." |
